Just a quick note to mention there is a long awaited new ShELP page. It’s referred to as a Landscape in Haiku although I believe it is actually a renga form of poetry but I’ve never heard of that! Why not have a gander, and in the words of Luis, make some comments!
pete c – would ShELP maybe like to take part in a renga ramble? I’m interested in your group. Exploring landcsape, place, space… are central to much of my practice as artist / poet… seeing your group of masters students studying landscape archeology but with opne minds is good…
the process is not just a matter of walking and writing there is a planned process with some ritual too but essentially at heart FUN!
The group have to give themselves up to the process and to the master. It might be interesting for your group of academics to approach their subject from this different angle – there are other ways too – derive (drifts) – haiku hikes (very different to renga rambles)… other mediated walks…
These things – including renga rambles – are usually comissioned in some way – perhaps your faculty might be interested in that with some additional workshop/talk or such … but hey if not lets just do it!
Here’s a diferent piece but still involving maps – comissioned by the people designing and building the new central shopping mall in the heart of Sheffield – where they will knock down John Lewis and surrounding area to makeway for the new centre….
